"Se a alma é imparcial no recebimento de informações, dedica-se a essa informação a participação da investigação crítica que as informações merecem, e sua verdade ou inverdade se torna clara. No entanto, se a alma estiver infectada com partidarismo para uma opinião ou seita particular, aceita sem hesitação de um momento a informação que é agradável. O preconceito e o partidarismo obscurecem a faculdade crítica e impedem a investigação crítica. Os resultados são que as falsidades são aceitas e transmitidas."

If the soul is impartial in receiving information, it devotes to that information the share of critical investigation the information deserves, and its truth or untruth thus becomes clear. However, if the soul is infected with partisanship for a particular opinion or sect, it accepts without a moment's hesitation the information that is agreeable to it. Prejudice and partisanship obscure the critical faculty and preclude critical investigation. The results is that falsehoods are accepted and transmitted.
