"Um amigo é mais do que um terapeuta ou confessor, mesmo que um amigo às vezes possa nos curar e nos oferecer perdão de Deus. Um amigo é que outra pessoa com quem podemos compartilhar nossa solidão, nosso silêncio e nossa oração. Um amigo é que outra pessoa com quem podemos olhar para uma árvore e dizer: "Isso não é bonito", ou sente-se na praia e silenciosamente assiste ao sol desaparecer sob o horizonte. Com um amigo, não temos que dizer ou fazer algo especial. Com um amigo, podemos ser ainda e sabemos que Deus está lá com nós dois."

A friend is more than a therapist or confessor, even though a friend can sometimes heal us and offer us God's forgiveness. A friend is that other person with whom we can share our solitude, our silence, and our prayer. A friend is that other person with whom we can look at a tree and say, "Isn't that beautiful," or sit on the beach and silently watch the sun disappear under the horizon. With a friend we don't have to say or do something special. With a friend we can be still and know that God is there with both of us.
