"Para dizer a verdade, no Pacífico 231 eu estava na trilha de um conceito muito abstrato e bastante ideal, dando a impressão de uma aceleração matemática de ritmo, enquanto o próprio movimento diminuiu. Eu primeiro chamei esta peça Mouvement Symphonique. Na reflexão, encontrei isso um pouco incolor. De repente, uma imagem bastante romântica atravessou minha mente, e quando o trabalho terminou, escrevi o título Pacífico 231, que indica uma locomotiva por cargas pesadas e altas velocidades (um tipo infelizmente desapareceu, infelizmente, e sacrificada à tração elétrica) ."

To tell the truth, in Pacific 231 I was on the trail of a very abstract and quite ideal concept, by giving the impression of a mathematical acceleration of rhythm, while the movement itself slowed .
