Lamento que minha personalidade ofusque os princípios envolvidos nesta grande luta; Mas eu perguntaria àqueles que tocaram minha vida, sem saber, que descobriram para mim vícios que eu não me lembro na memória da minha vida, eu perguntaria se todos podem se dar ao luxo de lançar a primeira pedra ... então que, como os melhores juízes, eles vão desocupar seus próprios assentos, tendo privado meus constituintes da sua direita aqui para os meus."

The House, being strong, should be generous ... but the constituents have a right to more than generosity.... The law gives me my seat. In the name of the law I ask for it.
