"Assim como o amor de Deus entrou no mundo, enviando-se ao mal-entendido e à ambiguidade que caracterizam tudo o mundo mundano, então também o amor cristão não existe em qualquer lugar, mas no mundo, em uma variedade infinita de ação mundana de concreto, e sujeito a mal-entendidos e condenação. Toda tentativa de retratar um cristianismo de amor "puro" purgado de "impurezas" mundanas é um falso purismo e perfeccionismo que despreza a Deus se tornando humano e cai presas para o destino de todas as ideologias. Deus não era muito puro para entrar no mundo."

Just as God's love entered the world, thereby submitting to the misunderstanding and ambiguity that characterize everything worldly, so also Christian love does not exist anywhere but in the worldly, in an infinite variety of concrete worldly action, and subject to misunderstanding and condemnation. Every attempt to portray a Christianity of 'pure' love purged of worldly 'impurities' is a false purism and perfectionism that scorns God's becoming human and falls prey to the fate of all ideologies. God was not too pure to enter the world.
