"Os Andrianos foram o primeiro dos ilhéus a recusar a demanda dos temistocles por dinheiro. Ele havia colocado para eles que não conseguiriam evitar pagar, porque os atenienses tinham o apoio de duas divindades poderosas, uma chamada persuasão e a outra compulsão. Os Andrianos responderam que Atenas tivesse sorte de ter dois deuses tão úteis, que eram obviamente responsáveis por sua riqueza e grandeza; Infelizmente, eles mesmos, em sua pequena terra e inadequada, tinham duas divindades totalmente inúteis, que se recusaram a deixar a ilha e insistiram em ficar; e seus nomes eram pobreza e incapacidade."

The Andrians were the first of the islanders to refuse Themistocles' demand for money. He had put it to them that they would be unable to avoid paying, because the Athenians had the support of two powerful deities, one called Persuasion and the other Compulsion.The Andrians had replied that Athens was lucky to have two such useful gods, who were obviously responsible for her wealth and greatness; unfortunately, they themselves, in their small & inadequate land, had two utterly useless deities, who refused to leave the island and insisted on staying; and their names were Poverty and Inability.
