"Se sentirmos que qualquer hábito ou perseguição , inofensivo em si, está nos mantendo de Deus e nos afundando mais fundo nas coisas da Terra; Se descobrirmos que coisas que outros podem fazer com impunidade são para nós, a ocasião de queda, então a abstinência é nosso único curso. Abstinência sozinha pode se recuperar para nós o valor real do que deveria ter sido para a nossa ajuda, mas que tem sido uma ocasião de queda. É necessário que devêssemos resolver constantemente desistir de qualquer coisa que vier entre nós e Deus."

Abstinence alone can recover for us the real value of what should have been for our help but which has been an occasion of falling. ...
