"Se [Western] Relações com a Rússia devem ser amigáveis, eles devem ser abertos e sinceros, caso contrário, não pode haver amizade em todo. Isso significa que se deve ser capaz de falar abertamente sobre tudo em reuniões e conferências. Não deveria ser que não possamos discutir a matança de jornalistas na Rússia, ou a supressão dos direitos humanos, ou todos os sinais de alerta que aparecem na Rússia por causa de petróleo e gás ou outras razões econômicas. É um grande problema, mas é o mesmo nas relações ocidentais com os estados árabes."

If [Western] relations with Russia are to be friendly, they must be open and sincere, otherwise there can be no friendship at all. That means one should be able to speak openly about everything at meetings and conferences. It shouldn't be that we can't discuss the killing of journalists in Russia, or the suppression of human rights, or all the warning signs surfacing in Russia because of oil and gas or other economic reasons. It's a big problem, but it's the same in Western relations with Arab states.
